Foundation Grant Policy

Grants shall be defined as financial assistance provided to families for the purpose of obtaining "Hearing and Hearing-Assisted Devices" (as defined in Paragraph immediately below).

Grants shall be awarded on an objective and non-discriminatory basis to families of deaf children who apply to the Foundation for financial assistance. The Foundation's primary objective is to support families in obtaining essential hearing devices for their children by providing financial aid while raising awareness about the lack of financial support from insurance companies and government agencies. These grants aim to help children access life-changing hearing technology without placing an undue financial burden on their families.

Definition of "Hearing and Hearing-Assisted Devices include the following:

1. Hearing Devices, including but not limited to hearing aids, cochlear implants, and bone-anchored hearing systems.

2. Hearing-Assisted Devices, such as FM systems, captioned telephones, and other assistive listening technologies.

3. Associated Medical and Support Services, including evaluations, fittings, programming, speech therapy, and rehabilitation services necessary for device effectiveness.

4. Advocacy and Awareness Efforts, supporting initiatives to educate the public and policymakers about the financial challenges families face in obtaining hearing devices, as well as efforts to improve insurance and government coverage for such devices.

Grants may be used to cover costs such as device purchases, medical services, therapy, and educational programs. Funds may be distributed directly to families, medical providers, or advocacy organizations.

For each grant awarded, the Foundation shall require the grantee to submit a written report or receipt verifying the use of the grant funds.

This report or receipt must confirm that the grant was used for its intended purpose and demonstrate the effectiveness of the Hearing and Hearing-Assisted Devices.

Grantees utilizing grant funds for specialized hearing-related services, such as auditory therapy or participation in research or development programs (e.g., device testing or customization), must also provide a written report verified or approved by a qualified professional (such as an audiologist, therapist, or other relevant service provider) detailing how the funds were used and the outcomes achieved. These reports must be submitted at least once annually or as otherwise specified by the Foundation. The Foundation reserves the right to require such additional written reports, receipts, or other documentation as it deems necessary to ensure compliance with expenditure responsibility requirements under the Internal Revenue Code or other applicable regulations. Such additional measures will enable the Foundation to fulfill its legal obligations and maintain accountability for the funds awarded.
