Our daughter was born at 36 weeks due to some medical issues that arose in pregnancy.  She failed her hearing test on her right ear at birth, and was diagnosed with mild sensorineural hearing loss and was fitted with a hearing aid in that ear when she was a few months old.

Now a very vibrant 4 year old she is in a great school that has children that are deaf or hard of hearing and has continued speech therapy to support her language development, and academic needs.  However, her hearing loss has progressed to profound sensorineural hearing loss in that ear, and we have noted some hearing loss beginning in her left ear.  Unfortunately, her current device does not have the capabilities to meet her needs.  Upon reaching out to our insurance company we found out that hearing aids are covered only once per lifetime, and the large expense was something that would have taken us a very long time to be able to fund.
